Driving the Robot!

After a long weekend of preparation, today was one of suspense. When we came in, we had only a few bugs to fix (or so we thought), then we could be out on the field. One thing after another happens as usual, and the delays came…

My little blurb follows, but please experience the weekend as we felt it. Go to the following link on our website, where there’s a video summary:

*Edit: Link is broken, view it on our newly updated website @ www.ahsrobotics.us

All that was left as we began this morning, was to test the arm/gripper combination, mount the bumpers and head down. We ended up having a similar problem to other teams, our window motors wouldn’t respond to jaguar inputs. It took a while, but after lunch, with the Victors in action, sure enough it worked fine! We mounted the bumpers, electrical finished up routing less ends and off we go!

The robot had some issues during testing, all of which we were thankfully able to track down and provide solutions for.

–Issue/Solutions–

1) The lift got caught and made funny noises occasionally; We made brackets to keep the tubing and other components from catching in the lift

2) The lift jumped teeth on the sprockets; We developed a better chain tensioning system which will be on the practice bot tomorrow

3) The popper frame didn’t seem to open and close all the way; We found the problem (the regulators), we fixed it and re-tested it again tonight

4) The driving around-ness seemed slow right?; Well, it wasn’t at max power, so quit whining

The robot functioned well tonight and is only going to get better tomorrow. Hopefully we can make those quick changes and be out there again soon! Here are some pics:

P.S. If you saw the mini-bot in the video link, that was slower than it is now. It currently slams to the top in 1.4 seconds!
